Braselton, GA – For the first time in four years, a driver has qualified first in two consecutive rounds. Samuel Hübinette did it in 2007 (Seattle/New Jersey), and now Conrad Grunewald has done it in 2011 (Long Beach/Atlanta).

“I can’t believe it,” Grunewald said, “My crew is going over the car to make sure it’s perfect for tomorrow…then I’ll just have to stay focused and make it happen.”

Road Atlanta also happens to be one of Grunewald’s favorite tracks, both for drifting and traditional racing. He qualified 3rd here last season, in his second event in the Camaro, and finished 6th after he spun out in front of Michael Essa in the Top 8.

Grunewald’s first run score of 96.2 was what earned him the top spot, but his 91-point second run also earned him the Retaks Insane Entry Award. Watch the video:

When he was told Hübinette was the last driver to qualify first at back to to back rounds, Grunewald said, “I have a lot of respect for Sam. He’s probably the best all-around driver here.”
